Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) + M21D
MODA and M21D Forge a Visionary Partnership to Champion the Future of Design.
June 10, 2024, Atlanta, Amsterdam
The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) and the Museum of 21st Century Design (M21D) in Amsterdam are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership. This collaboration is dedicated to developing and presenting exhibitions and public programs that harness the transformative power of design to shape the future in Atlanta, the Netherlands, and beyond.
This partnership is rooted in the museums’ shared mission to drive cultural change and promote social and environmental resilience through innovative programs and exhibitions. The partnership kicks off with the support of the Dutch Consulate and the visit to Atlanta on June 10 of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, who will meet with MODA director Laura Flusche.
By empowering individuals to envision and design better futures, MODA and M21D are fostering a vibrant dialogue among communities. Their work focuses on creative storytelling from fresh perspectives, such as envisioning the world through the eyes of people 100 years in the future and giving a voice to nature.
The inaugural activities of this dynamic partnership will debut during Atlanta Design Week on September 28, 2024, and Dutch Design Week on October 19, 2024. Stay tuned for more exciting details.
These programs will be showcased not only in gallery spaces but also in schools, parks, festivals, libraries, and other public venues across Georgia and the Netherlands. They will feature an array of American and Dutch design works, celebrating the rich cultural exchange between these regions. This collaboration builds on the robust relationship between Georgia and the Netherlands, exemplified by significant cross-border investments and the establishment of the Dutch consulate in Atlanta in 2019.
About the Partners:
MODA serves as a vibrant hub for exchange, offering unique exhibitions that inspire action and change within Atlanta’s communities, from children and teachers to professionals. MODA views design as a powerful creative force capable of solving problems, transforming lives, and making the world a better place. Its programs challenge traditional norms and expand the possibilities of what a museum can be, making it the only museum in the Southeast devoted to the study and celebration of all things design.
M21D highlights design’s positive impact on the environment and society through collaborations with a global network of museums and cultural institutions. By creating engaging physical exhibitions and events, M21D prioritizes public engagement and peer dialogue. Based in Amsterdam, M21D is dedicated to a new approach to public service that addresses our collective need for greater environmental and social justice, operating on a global scale.
Together, MODA and M21D are poised to redefine the future of design, inspiring communities worldwide to envision and create a better tomorrow.
