M21D exhibitions and programs investigate how design impacts three spaces: environment, society, and museums. These are deeply interconnected topics; we've placed our projects into four categories based on their primary goal only to make it easier for everyone to navigate through them.

Reframing Design Objects

What stories can we tell about design objects if we look at them from a different angle? In collaboration with Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, M21D is examining objects from the museum’s collection from social and environmental perspectives. By engaging with these objects in a new way, we will reframe them with new data, provocative questions, and feedback from the people for whom they were designed. One of our goals is to develop new criteria for museums to use in telling compelling new stories about the objects in their museums.
