The Museum of 21st Century Design is a non-profit organization that enhances public understanding and appreciation of design from the 21st century that positively impacts society and the environment. The museum doesn't have a permanent building. It's a compilation of temporary exhibitions and events in different locations, publications, and an online collection

We're introducing a new approach to serving the public. M21D focuses on the future rather than the past. We're about conversation not conservation. Our goals are education and community engagement.

Join us in our mission to make design with positive social and environmental impacts the standard!

The Museum of 21st Century Design is hiring a freelance social media manager to help us amplify design that has positive environmental or social impacts. The successful candidate will work with our communications lead as well as with our director, head of operations, and, periodically, our advisors and partners. The work includes researching and creating new and compelling content about design’s role in creating a more livable future, and engaging with members of our online community through commenting and sharing.

Your responsibilities include

  • Developing and executing strategy that engages communities on specific channels.

  • Scheduling, creating, and publishing 3-5 times a week on each channel.

  • Coordinate with overall communications strategy to ensure the museum speaks with a unified voice.

  • Generating conversations with people and organizations.

  • Developing a comprehensive keyword and tagging strategy.

The position’s requirements include

  • Excellent communication skills in English (C2 if not native).

  • Experience with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Familiarity with the Wix.com platform for updating web content.

  • Passion for the mission of the museum combined with an informed critical perspective.

  • The ability to create online content that sparks engagement.

  • Interest in learning about or knowledge of contemporary design.

  • Comfort working in a team environment with the ability to take initiative and work independently.

What we offer

  • We offer 20 euros per hour, based on a commitment of 8 hours a week (1-2 hours per day).

  • Artistic creativity. We have brand guidelines, but they’re liberal and provide plenty of room to experiment.

  • Learn what it’s like to start a new organization. We have an open culture, and you’re welcome in all meetings, from project planning to grant writing to curatorial strategy.

  • We believe in a collaborative and supportive work environment, and we’re invested in your professional development. We encourage you to cultivate your own research interests in tandem with our mission and propose ideas for feedback and support.

  • The position is available for an initial period of 4 months with the possibility of an extension.

  • We’re based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but it is possible to work off-site.

To apply, please send your CV and a one-page motivation letter to info@m21d.org with the subject line: “Social media manager application: [NAME].” Be sure to mention any social media accounts you currently manage on behalf of organizations.

Applications are open until APRIL 18 (Originally April 4) 2022. We look forward to receiving yours!
