The Museum of 21st Century Design is a non-profit organization that enhances public understanding and appreciation of design from the 21st century that positively impacts society and the environment. The museum doesn't have a permanent building. It's a compilation of temporary exhibitions and events in different locations, publications, and an online collection

The Museum of 21st Century Design is hiring a freelance social media manager to help us amplify design that has positive environmental or social impacts. The work consists of strategizing, creating, and publishing content on three channels and fostering conversation across online platforms and communities.


The successful candidate will work with our communications lead as well as with our director, head of operations, and, periodically, our advisors and partners. The work includes researching and creating new and compelling content about design’s role in creating a more livable future, and engaging with members of our online community through commenting and sharing. 

Your responsibilities include

  • Developing and executing strategy that engages communities on specific channels.

  • Scheduling, creating, and publishing 3-5 times a week on each channel.

  • Coordinate with overall communications strategy to ensure the museum speaks with a unified voice.

  • Generating conversations with people and organizations.

  • Developing a comprehensive keyword and tagging strategy.


The position’s requirements include 

  • Excellent communication skills in English (C2 if not native).

  • Experience with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Familiarity with the Wix.com platform for updating web content. 

  • Passion for the mission of the museum combined with an informed critical perspective. 

  • The ability to create online content that sparks engagement.  

  • Interest in learning about or knowledge of contemporary design.

  • Comfort working in a team environment with the ability to take initiative and work independently.

  • We offer 20 euros per hour, based on a commitment of 8 hours a week (1-2 hours per day).

  • The position is available for an initial period of 4 months with the possibility of an extension. 

  • We’re based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but it is possible to work off-site.
