The Museum of 21st Century Design is looking for a Communications Intern (Paid)
Research | Content Creation | Social Media Management
Post Date: 2 February, 2021
Applications accepted up to: 2 March, 2021
The Museum of 21st Century Design [M21D] is a new nonprofit based in Amsterdam. Our organization is looking for an intern to add to our growing team. Our work culture is collaborative, dynamic, and dedicated to fulfilling the mission of M21D: to enhance public understanding and appreciation of 21st Century design that has positive environmental or social impact.
We are seeking someone to assist with research, content creation, and social media management. We are primarily interested in individuals that have at least one year of experience in these areas. Preference will be given to candidates with experience of managing at least one social media platform, and with some museum experience.
The ideal candidate will work with the Organizer and Head of Operations to seek out new design projects for the Design Study Collection, research ideas for new and innovative exhibition concepts, and participate in audience development. The individual will also be responsible for managing at least one of the Museum’s social media accounts, by creating content, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement.
We are looking for someone with:
Excellent research and communication skills in English, knowledge of Dutch is a plus but not required
An entrepreneurial mindset who is self-motivated
Passion for the mission of the museum, and an informed critical perspective
Demonstrated creative problem solving skills
Fluency with various social media networks including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
The ability to communicate persuasively, irreverently, and, sometimes, academically, in creating online content that sparks engagement
Some knowledge of contemporary design
Comfort working in a team environment, with the confidence to take initiative and work independently
Compensation & term
The position pays 400 euros per month. We recognize this is a small amount and we are actively building capacity and raising funds to make this position better paid. The expectation of time dedicated to the work is 12 hours a week, spread out over 2 to 3 days, although this is flexible. The successful candidate will begin with a term of 4 months, at the end of which we will discuss an extension and evaluate the possibility of more hours and compensation.
The experience will introduce you to the steps involved in developing a new organization, including collecting strategy, producing an exhibition, designing programming, and audience development. You will be encouraged to cultivate your own research interests in tandem with the Museum’s mission, and to propose original ideas for feedback. We believe in a supportive and learning environment, in which it is part of our job, as management, to help you develop your skills and perspective to prepare you for the next step in your professional development. We will regularly discuss your personal short and longer term goals and tailor parts of your job to reach those goals.
WE'RE BASED IN AMSTERDAM, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE TO WORK REMOTELY.
